Course Objective:

Pipeline is the most efficient, reliable and safe mode of transport for oil, gas, hydrocarbons and water. Pipeline corrosion can result in huge monetary losses and create safety hazards for people, assets and environment. Hence, Corrosion control is an important facet for ensuring integrity of the pipelines. The internal corrosion and MIC are the very important aspects to control corrosion rate and a comprehensive Pipeline Integrity Management needs to be followed to ensure safety and reliability of the oil and gas pipelines through a foundation of corrosion control, inspection, assessment, mitigation and communication. This course covers various aspects of internal corrosion of pipelines, methods available for prevention and cost effective life extension of existing pipeline while maintaining adequate safeguards for human life and the environment.

Theme Topics & Structure of the Program:

  • Pipeline services with internal corrosion (wet gas pipelines, liquid hydrocarbon pipelines, water pipelines, well fluid pipelines)
  • Mechanism of corrosion (Hydrogen sulfide and carbon di oxide corrosion, Flow induced corrosion, Multi-phase flow, Corrosion rate calculations, Microbiological Induced Corrosion (MIC), Corrosion under deposits, Neutral aqueous solutions)
  • Corrosion Prevention/control methods (Internal coated pipeline, corrosion inhibitors, bactericides, dehydration, cleaning Pigging)
  • Corrosion Monitoring System /techniques (types of CMS, location, coupons, iron count, probes, and bacteria count, residue analysis, fluid analysis, temperature, flow)
  • Pipeline Inspections by NDT  (In-line inspections, inspection of Non-piggable pipelines, manual ultrasonic thickness measurement)
  • Corrosion rate and corrosion assessment, identification of reason /mechanism of corrosion from monitoring and NDT results
  • Fitness for purpose, remaining life Assessment for aged pipelines based on corrosion assessment
